Art Dubai Talks
Many interesting talks to attend. Screenings.Tours. Etc. Art weeks are crazy hectic and a lot of socializing, connecting, and running around. Let alone the social functions and crazy parties. But that's another story.
My two favorite talks were one held in honor of one of my all-time favorite artists, Ali Jabiri. Killed in the prime of his giving and lustrous career, Ali has been an enigma in many ways. The master of socio-political scribbling and drawings, Ali had a unique, unmatched talent, and a style very much his own. He died too young, and there are many today who would like to document his works and have them appreciated by the world. The talk was interesting in that it covered his various works and styles by Wadi Finan Art Gallery owner and founder Suha Lallas. His personal life, views, interests and passions, covered by his close friend and confidant Rula Atallah. And the history and in-depth research behind his art and style, covered by non other than the eloquent art historian, art aficionado, and philanthropist Sheikh Sultan Al Qassemi.
The other talk was held by the talented London/Morrocco based artist Hassan Hajjaj, often referred to as the Warhol of Marrakesh, on his collaboration with 81Designs, a fantastic UAE based initiative that aims to empower artisan women in refugee camps in South Lebanon.
