Felix Art Show
So Hollywood! And a super cool anti Frieze vibe ( it’s funny how these anti mainstream fairs are popping up everywhere, only to prove again and again the ‘anti establishment vibe’, and that there is more politics in art than there is in politics.
Loved it though, and thought that the idea of having the galleries setting up the artworks inside the bedrooms, bathrooms, sitting rooms, and corridors of the bungalows surrounding the ever so famous Hotel Roosevelt pool, was a totally Rad concept.
Paintings hung over toilets and inside showers, and gallerists conversing with buyers and clients on beds and hotel room sofas was pretty cool. The heated pool, DJ’s, and people lounging on sunbeds in their winter coats was quite the scene. The retro Hollywood decor was just very fitting and reminiscent of the golden days of LA’s art and entertainment scene.
Here’s what Jerry Saltz told the New York Magazine about the fist 2019 edition of Felix, “Young artists chatted with famous dealers; people looked at each other’s work; older artists brought students around. Sentimental educations were in the offing. This is what art fairs ought to be.”
