Hi.

My name is Dina. I am an art buyer from Amman, Jordan and my blog is about my art travels! Welcome to my escapades!

Frieze LA

A small, pretty little fair! That’s how I can describe Frieze LA.

The venue of the fair was super cool, and it felt great walking through Paramount Studios to check out all the outdoor installations and artworks.
I enjoyed the art at Greene Naftali , König Galerie , David Zwirner , and especially loved the works of Marcelo Cidade at Vermelho gallery.

(The highlight for me on the VIP Preview day was of course my encounter with Gwyneth Paltrow).

I enjoyed taking the art tour of the different galleries in different parts of the city, using my friend Suzanne Egeran’s cool app PS:LA

And…. oh the glamorous parties of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood! I Truly enjoyed the amazing vibe and Beverly Hills view at the Casa Perfect party!!! Held at the previously owned home of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, the Future Perfect architecture and design company glamorously started Frieze LA with a chic cocktail party at their new showroom Casa Perfect.

But, I have to say that one has to plan everything really well, and accept the fact that one cannot do too many activities a day, as LA is very spread out and the traffic is a killer.
I was surprised to find that some of the partner hotels were in Downtown LA, as it is a serious buzz kill to be caught in downtown traffic coming or going to the fair and gallery functions from there. I would highly recommend a stay in West Hollywood, and a well thought out plan.
The city is huge and different areas offer very different things. The museums are great, and if you plan things well you can get to see quite a lot of great art.

Not sure about the timing though, as it was super cold and rainy in LA this February, and I believe it will be so again next year and the years after. I guess we can’t ignore global warming, as it does exist, Mr. Trump, and the weather sort of ruined the vibe for me a bit, as I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT cold (and had mostly light summer clothes) and was a bit disappointed as I had always heard LA weather was amazing all year round. My bad maybe! But do take some warm clothes just in case.
